National Chapter History
Quite a long time ago two of Alpha Xi Delta's founders, Harriet Luella McCollum and Cora Bollinger Block, wanted to form a local sorority to encourage personal friendships, promote friendlier contacts with the entire student body, and be of active service to their college. On April 17th, 1893, the existence of Alpha Xi Delta on the campus of Lombard College (now Knox) in Galesburg, Illinois became known, and those women's dreams became reality. Ten devoted friends, who made up the original founders of Alpha Xi Delta, entered their local chapel that day bearing the sorority's traditional colors of light blue, dark blue, and gold, and were officially seen as a Greek women's organization. The service was followed by cheers and rejoicing as these women were welcomed as a new group on campus.

Since that day, more than 100 years ago, the spirit of Alpha Xi Delta has enriched the lives of thousands of women throughout the world with its message of lifelong learning, friendship, and realizing one's potential. Now, a National Fraternity with 110 active college chapters and more than 130,000 initiated members, Alpha Xi Delta has grown into a progressive and forward-thinking organization with college chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States.

Our Founders left us a great legacy: they taught us the value of education, because it would free us to achieve our goals and give us the power to be whatever we chose to be. They taught us to support one another, as women are thought to have a connection through shared experiences and understanding. Finally, they taught us to serve others and to reach out to those who are less fortunate to help make their lives better. It is these ideals of scholarship, friendship, responsibility and understanding that we embrace and will carry forth for generations to come through our sisterhood.

Local Chapter History

On January 27th, 1995, the newest colony of the national women's fraternity Alpha Xi Delta officially began. Over 100 trailblazing women were chosen to receive official bids and pledged themselves to start a journey that would be fun, challenging, and ultimately triumphant as they created a brand-new sisterhood that would change many women's lives at the University of Central Florida in the years to come. In the next two months, the women jumped into a packed schedule of sisterhood events, leadership retreats, socials, and philanthropies to establish a name for themselves on campus and earn the right to be an official chapter.

On March 25th, 1995, their hard work paid off as 112 excited women were rewarded with the honor of becoming officially initiated sisters of the Theta Sigma chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. The year that followed would make their chapter stronger, as the women participated in a successful fall recruitment, rushing out of the Alpha Tau Omega house, and established two cherished traditions that still continue today- the Xi Man competition, a male beauty pageant featuring UCF's fraternity men competing to hold the revered title of Xi Man, the Alpha Xi sweetheart; and the Killarney Ball, an annual formal dance to send off the school year in style. In 2000, Theta Sigma was blessed with a place on campus to call their own- a beautiful chapter house, located at 4101 Greek Park Drive.

Today, Alpha Xi Deltas at UCF can be found in all aspects of Greek and student life and many organizations- SGA, O-Team, Panhellenic Executive Board, and the President's Leadership Council to name but a few. Friendly, fun, athletic, intelligent, and classy, we Alpha Xi's are proud of our letters and enjoy a sisterly bond like no other as we look forward to an even brighter future in the years to come.

Alpha XI Delta Symbols

The Coat of Arms
The Coat of Arms of Alpha Xi Delta consists of a shield supported by two griffins. In the golden band across the center of the shield is the Quill. Three conventional roses are at the top of the shield, and a broken sword is in the lower portion of the shield. Above the shield on the knight's helmet is a twist of ribbon in alternating blue and gold, and a blossomed rose.

Colors
The colors of Alpha Xi Delta are double blue (light and dark) and gold.

Flower
The flower of Alpha Xi Delta is the Killarney Rose, which is a light pink color, thornless, and has a large bloom. It was chosen by our Founders to complement the white rose of Sigma Nu, our brother fraternity.
